VCE Outdoor & Environmental Studies Resources

Unit One: Understanding outdoor experiences
Area of Study Two: Humans and nature

Ways in which humans value nature, including as a resource, for recreation, for adventure, for spiritual connection, and as a study site

"The Lorax" by Dr Suess - available from the VOEA Education Outdoors Shop - is a great resource for this dot point. Rod Kirkwood from Horsham Secondary College has provided the following questions to use with "the Lorax"

1.   What was the Lorax?
2.   Why was the Lorax there?
3.   Who was the Once-ler?
4.   What did the Once-ler do?
5.   Why did the Once-ler do what he did?
6.   What effect did the Once-ler’s activities have on the environment?
7.   What could the Once-ler have done to minimise the impact on the environment?
8.   Why did the Lorax leave?
9.   What does the pile of rocks with “UNLESS” inscribed mean?
10.  Personally, what does this story mean to you? (do you agree/disagree with the moral of this story?)
