VOEA > Scholarship

Chris Loynes was, until 1999, the Director of the Adventure Education, an organisation dedicated to supporting the outdoor and experiential education fields. He is now involved in consulting in the U.K as well as internationally for universities and other educational organisations, providing staff and programme development and management practice consulting.
At the 7th National Outdoor Education Conference in Frankston, 1991, Chris Loynes dedicated proceeds from his pre-conference session to the establishment of a travel fund for a Victorian outdoor educator. The VOEA agreed to contribute to the cause and as a result the VOEA Outdoor Education Chris Loynes Scholarship was established. A number of outdoor educators have taken advantage of the travel scholarship, but from 2008 the nature of the scholarship will change. After consultation with Chris Loynes, the VOEA has decided that the scholarship will now be provided to people undertaking research in the outdoor education field.
The criteria for consideration include:
- Demonstrated exemplary practice in the field of outdoor education
-
Evidence of proposed/ongoing research during 2008/09
-
Clear outline of ways in which the research will improve teaching and learning in outdoor education in Victoria
-
Australian residential status
-
Individual member of the VOEA
On completion of the year’s scholarship, the successful applicant will be required to provide an article for publication in Journeys and present a workshop on the learning gleaned from their research and how that might be applied in outdoor education programs in Victoria. For more information contact the VOEA Office or complete the application form below.
